The forms alone which needed completing were a good indicator of what was to come, what can we flog you?!
Highly geared up to facial aesthetics and teeth straightening and I just wanted a check up. Before I’d checked in I was directed to a room to have my teeth scanned and put on a large screen and told how they could look if straightened. My teeth were also described as ‘weird’. Thanks. Saw the dentist next who loudly and somewhat proudly told me that I had gum disease and was at 24 times higher risk of heart disease, 4 times more likely to die from it and 3 times higher risk of stroke. I’ve got it in writing!
Saw the hygienist the following week expecting a similarly shocking diagnosis but he said, there’s no gun disease just a bit of inflammation. Just have your normal 6 monthly check. He was great and deserves a 5 star rating. The rest of the practice however was like a conveyer belt of in and out and what can we sell you? Never used to be like this!

Thank you for taking time to give feedback on our practice.
In regards to the paperwork, this is something that is required by the NHS and unfortunately we are obliged to get this completed. There is an exemption form, to state whether you pay for charges or not, Medical history, an oral health questionnaire and a covid assessment. Most of these forms have been in place for decades and only the covid assessment is new, as we need to ascertain whether the patient may be potentially infectious or not, due to the pandemic.
We are also obliged to offer patients choice on their treatment, so we do have posters around the practice, which indicate what treatments we carry out. I wouldn't describe this as "highly geared", as most businesses have posters on what they offer.
In regards to your gum disease, when a patient presents with pocketing of 2 or more, then it is recommended that they see the hygienist, so that the early onset of periodontal treatment can be deferred. Periodontal disease can lead to other health issues if this goes untreated. We would always put this in writing to the patient. The dentist referred you to the hygienist because you were over this mark.
The hygienist noted that you did need treatment. You had inflammation, which is the onset of periodontal disease.
You may feel that the practice is like a conveyer belt, but we have organised treatment times and on Tuesdays, we have 4 surgeries running, so there may appear to be a lot of movement.
Nothing has changed with the running of the practice, apart from having purchased a scanner, so that we are able to add this to patients clinical records.
