Everything for my appointment was fine, however I expected that my teeth would have been given a good clean by the dentist but that did not happen.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review of our service. We listen to the opinions of patients and this helps us provide a better service as we are constantly aiming to improve.
We’re very glad to hear that everything was fine with your appointment. After having to rearrange almost 8,000 appointments during lockdown, we are working hard to try and get back on track. There are still restrictions placed on what we are able to deliver especially when it comes to aerosol-generating procedures (AGP) such as scaling and polishing teeth. During an AGP, saliva mixes with the fine water spray released from the scaler to form an aerosol. This aerosol lingers in the atmosphere for some time after the procedure, and so is assumed to be a risk factor for transmission of coronavirus. For this reason, dentists are required to allow the surgery to “fallow” for a period of time after any AGP to ensure the environment is safe for the next patient. To provide an AGP at each check-up would severely affect our ability to deliver access for the thousands of patients who still need to access dental care at our clinic at this time. As such, we are limiting AGP usage as per the NHS’s transition to recovery document aimed at guiding NHS services during this phase of the pandemic.
Our apologies if this was not made clear to you at the time. We sincerely hope that this situation improves in the coming months as we would dearly like to get back to some sort of normality as soon as safety permits.
Team HDC.
