We understand how frustrating unexpected cost increases can feel, particularly given wider cost-of-living pressures, and we’re sorry that the most recent fee change wasn’t communicated to you clearly in advance.

Over recent years, the nature of our hygiene appointments has changed significantly. Appointments are now longer, more individualised, and often include advanced techniques such as airflow therapy, higher-grade clinical materials, enhanced infection-control protocols, and ongoing investment in modern equipment and staff training. At the same time, practice running costs, including staffing, compliance, materials, and utilities, have risen substantially.

The recommendation to shorten the recall interval to 3–4 months is always made on clinical grounds, based on gum health and individual risk, rather than cost, and is intended to prevent more complex (and costly) treatment later.

That said, your point about transparency is a fair one. We are reviewing how we communicate fee changes going forward to ensure patients are fully informed ahead of their appointments.
