We’re pleased to hear that you were happy with the hygienist’s treatment once it was underway, but we’re very sorry to learn that other aspects of your visit left you feeling disappointed.

With regard to the hygienist appointment, even when patients are confident with their brushing routine, our clinicians are required to provide tailored oral hygiene advice as part of a preventative approach. This ensures we are supporting long-term gum health as well as carrying out the clinical cleaning. The £105 fee reflects the hygienist’s professional time and treatment provided. Unfortunately, hygienist services are not covered under NHS check-ups unless they are clinically required as part of specific NHS periodontal treatment, so they are offered on a private basis.

In relation to your dental check-up, we are sorry you felt rushed or that there wasn’t enough opportunity to discuss your concerns. That is certainly not the experience we want our patients to have. NHS appointments are structured within specific time and treatment guidelines, but you should always feel listened to and able to ask questions about your oral health.

Staining is very common and is usually managed with hygienist cleaning, which is why this may have been recommended. However, we are sorry if this felt like pressure rather than advice.

We’re sorry to hear your concerns about the cost of the appointment. Our hygienists do not set their own fees; these are determined at practice level and reflect a number of factors beyond the time spent carrying out the scaling itself. Appointment time includes reviewing your medical history, assessing gum health, providing preventative advice, carrying out the clinical treatment, detailed record-keeping, and strict cross-infection and decontamination procedures.

Hygienist treatment is provided on a private basis, as it is not routinely covered under NHS care unless prescribed as part of specific NHS periodontal treatment. Like many practices, we regularly review our fees in line with rising clinical, equipment and compliance costs, while aiming to remain fair and competitive within the local area.

That said, we genuinely value feedback about fees and transparency. We never want patients to feel uncomfortable, and we are always happy to discuss treatment options and costs in advance so you can make an informed decision.
