Hi Emily
Thank you for your feedback on your recent visits to Newport Pagnell Dental.
We are sorry to hear that you felt our team were not empathetic with you and your daughter.
Having spoken with the Dentist and the 2 Nurses who assisted at your daughter's appointments, they are really disappointed with your feedback as they all felt they tried very hard to help you both through what was undoubtedly a very difficult and stressful situation for both you and your daughter.
Your daughter attended a course of extractions in preparation for her orthodontic treatment. The team immediately recognised she was extremely anxious, quite understandably, about having her teeth taken out and they set about keeping her calm, distracting her with toys and chatter and letting her listen to music through headphones to help get her through the treatment. They are a very experienced team and accustomed to helping calm nervous and anxious patients and they are often praised for their approach to this so it is disappointing that you felt they did not show much empathy in this situation.
Extraction treatment is such that no matter how gentle we try to be and regardless of how much pain relief and topical gel is applied, unless sedation is used, patients will still feel some pushing and pressure as the teeth are removed - there is unfortunately little that can be done to eliminate this. It can also be quite distressing to observe this treatment so we appreciate that it was probably quite difficult for you too.
In the circumstances, the Dentist and the Nurses feel they did everything they could and worked as efficiently as the situation would allow to help your daughter through what was clearly a scary treatment for her. They are really sad to hear you didn't feel this was the case. If you feel more could have been done please do email us directly -
