I called at 8am today for an emergency appointment, having experienced pain & sensitivity in an area of my mouth, and multiple painful ulcers on my tongue for the past two weeks, which have worsened in recent days.
I explained that I had just suffered a tragic bereavement with the loss of my mum 3 weeks ago.
My mouth was checked thoroughly and no issues were discovered with my teeth.
The pain & ulcers were, in fact, caused by something called 'Bruxism' which the dentist explained is involuntary tooth grinding during the night, often associated with periods of extreme stress, when your immune system is low. I had also been biting my tongue at night causing the ulcers.
I was given lots of helpful advice on how to improve the symptoms and stop the bruxism happening. I was also given a leaflet explaining what bruxism is, what causes it & how to prevent it happening, with practical & lifestyle advice.
I had never even heard of this word 'Bruxism' before.
I was SO grateful that I booked this appointment & feel really reassured by the expert advice given today. I was not even charged for this appointment.
