I am still shocked at no longer being a NHS patient at Dinnington Dental Practice. I received no notice whatsoever of being removed from their list. I was able to book my appointment online, as a patient and make the appointment for the next morning at 8.30 a.m. I later received a telemessage saying I hadn’t visited the practice since 2018 and therefore I was no longer an NHS patient, but they would see me as a ‘private patient’ costing an initial fee of £50 and that I would need to pay this fee in advance or the appointment would be cancelled. I left a message on their ansaphone to confirm I would be attending and would pay the money on arrival, which I did at 8.20 a.m. In all, it cost me £58 for X-rays and check up. The Dentist did confirm my pain was being caused by infection to a wobbly molar that had no bone support and would need extracting at some point, but not today. At the end of my consultation I asked the Dentist if he would give me some antibiotics for the infection which incurred a further cost of £13 to write the prescription and a further £9.99 to dispense it at the pharmacy next door. I also asked why they couldn’t keep me (and my husband) as NHS patients and he said there was NO FUNDING available from the Government. I just wish the practice had given us ‘notice’ of being taken off their NHS list and feel this is not very good patient centred care. We had no idea they had removed us, as NHS patients. Right now, the Government isn’t playing fair with dental practices. Why can we get free NHS doctors / nursing appointments, but not Dental appointments? The Government need to provide the same level of funding for both.

I had a filling today, the Dentist took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process. I really appreciated their gentle approach and attention to detail. The reception staff were also incredibly kind and efficient, making the entire visit smooth and stress-free.
