The check up is very quick and nowhere near as thorough as it used to be. Used to get a clean as standard, not now. Feel short changed.

As part of your examination, the Dentist will take routine X-rays (if necessary) and assess your need for a scale and polish resulting in 3 possible outcomes:
1. It may not be deemed necessary
2. If it is deemed necessary, the Dentist may provide this under the NHS band 1 charge of ยฃ27.40
3. If your gum health indicates the need for a more extensive clean, the Dentist will refer you to the Hygienist who has the necessary skills and clinical time to provide this service. This generates a NHS band 2 charge of ยฃ75.30
Please note that if wish to access our Hygienist service at any time this may be done on a private basis at a fee of ยฃ98.00. This 30-minute appointment includes a detailed gum health assessment, cleaning, polishing and individually tailored advice for optimal home care.
Regarding your concerns about the length of your appointment, it may be helpful to illustrate what is investigated as part of your examination:
1. Examination of teeth and gums- your dentist will look for signs of decay, gum disease or abnormalities
2. Oral Cancer screening- your mouth, cheeks, gums, tongue and throat are assessed for signs of oral cancer
3. X- rays- depending on individual treatment needs X-rays may be taken to detect problems not visible to the naked eye (please note these are not taken at every examination)
Whilst each Dentist works differently, please rest assured that these checks are wholly and thoroughly completed as a legal duty of care. Depending on individual treatment needs, appointment will length will vary; a healthy mouth will invariably take less time than a patient with higher treatment requirements.
