Different Dentists have different preferred methods of carrying out examinations- i.e. some are more verbal than others. However, please rest assured that your teeth and gums are thoroughly checked at each and every examination along with an Oral Cancer Screening. These are the fundamental requirements of ALL examinations.

As part of your examination, the Dentist will take routine X-rays (if necessary) and assess
your need for a scale and polish resulting in 3 possible outcomes:
1. It may not be deemed necessary
2. If it is deemed necessary, the Dentist may provide this under the NHS band 1
charge of £25.80
3. If your gum health indicates the need for a more extensive clean, the Dentist will
refer you to the Hygienist who has the necessary skills and clinical time to provide
this service. This generates a band 2 charge of £70.70

In this instance your gum health assessment deemed a scale and polish clinically unnecessary.

Please note that if wish to access our Hygienist service at any time this may be done on a
private basis at a fee of £79.00. This 30-minute appointment includes a detailed gum health
assessment, cleaning, polishing and individually tailored advice for optimal home care.
