Part of tooth in a very difficult to reach part of mouth broke off. Root canals had been treated and tooth filled with amalgam by another dentist about 30 years ago. Options of leaving roots or removing old fillings and treating them again before putting a crown on were explained carefully to me. I opted to have roots treated again.
Procedure was split over 3 sessions, was painless and I was kept informed of what was being done.
In addition to the people, three things helped enormously. One was a rubber dam which enables the teeth to be washed and debris sucked out without it getting into the mouth. The second was a simple block of rubber which holds the mouth open without any effort on the part of the patient. The third was an intraoral scan which involves a small probe being moved along the teeth to build up a digital 3D picture of them. This not only enables a more accurate crown to be made, but avoids the need to use the blue sticky goo which used to be used for impressions. I felt no discomfort while my teeth were being scanned. I have designer stubble and the goo could take ages to get off. I hate to think what it must be like for anyone with a full beard.
