I had my B12 injection, the health practitioner. Was very nice. Made me feel at ease. Very good at her job. And also very helpful with questions I asked.

My experience

2 out of 5 stars

I was very disappointed and stressed out after waiting 25 minutes fir my regular B12 injections only to find out it wasn’t suppose to be on that day (20/5/22). This is the second time it has happened to me e. I have to arrange for lifts to get to my appointments each time. It’s the incompetence of staff booking appointments they have caused the errors again!!! But why!!!!

We are sorry that you have experienced frustration with your B12 appointment. When you attend for a B12 you are advised how long until your next injection. It is usually 8/12 weeks. It would normally be explained that you cannot attend 'early'. Generally a couple of days either side is acceptable.

However it is up to the patient to note this down. Our appointment booking staff do not have access to your information to see whether you are early in booking. We will be introducing a system where we can book appointments such as B12 for you with a degree of notice . You will be offered this in due course once the service is implemented. In the meantime please feel free to ask our HCAs to write down the exact due date of your next B12 so this situation can be avoided.

My recent appointment

3 out of 5 stars

The appointment itself was good and the consultant I spoke with was very informative and appeared to be very thorough and knowledgeable in the field relating to my ongoing problems.

However it took me a very long time to book this appointment and it was a very time consuming and contrived process to do so! This alone would have deterred many people to give up trying.

Also I was not informed beforehand that after all of my stress over the week to get my appointment I was only booked in to see a Physio and not an actual Doctor.

The overall service was poor. This is why I have given a poor score.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you felt booking the appointment was time consuming and contrived. We regularly review our contact centre waiting and response times. We appreciate the demand for GP appointments outstrips the supply significantly. Part of our plan to manage this is to ensure we employ an extensive team with specialist knowledge and skills, so our patients see the right person first time. If you were booked in with a Physio, it is likely because you expressed concerns with muscular or skeletal issues. Please be assured they are absolutely very thorough and knowledgeable and likely the most appropriate person to deal with your ongoing problem. The doctors would agree they will be the best person for you to see! We are thrilled to have the equivalent of two full time Physios on our team and are pleased to hear that they were very informative.

Whilst I was pleased to be called for Blood Tests & Blood Pressure checks, I would have liked to know which tests I was having & if I could have called for the results. I was told I'd be contacted if necessary. I would have asked more but nurse seemed reluctant to answer questions.

Thank you for your feedback and rating. We are sorry it was not made clear to you what tests were being done - this could have been clarified for you.

It is practice policy to call with any results that require action or review. Generally speaking 'no news is good news' however we encourage patients to access their test results on line and they are welcome to call to check they are in if they cannot see them after a few days. We have a patient leaflet on blood results and turnaround times to ensure you allow sufficient times for results to be returned, viewed and filed: https://www.portsdowngrouppractice.co.uk/tests--results

Seen by student nurse, with nurse specialist in attendance. Student nurse was very efficient, with a kind and courteous manner. She did relevant checks, asked pertinent questions and ordered a blood test. Nurse specialist only had to suggest further additions to the blood test form.

I can never fault the Nurse or the professional manner in the way she cares for my wound. We are always talking about the wound and I am kept well informed about the proceedings and what treatment ie, dressings and or another wound treatment will be applied to the wound. Word alone cannot express how I admire and respect the Nurse. Not all patients are respectful and some make the staffs life awkward which I find offensive and will intervene rather than see any Nurse put under unnecessary duress.

Drop-in Shingles Vaccination

5 out of 5 stars
workingfeedback logo
I had to have a blood test at the Somerstown Centre where I had been told my wife and I might also be able to have our shingles jab at the same time. Unfortunately there was no GP available at Somerstown to administer the shingles jab but we were told that we could get this done at the Kingston Centre. We took a bus to North End and duly presented ourselves at reception where we were asked to wait whilst a GP would be requested to administer said jabs. After approx 10 - 15 minutes we were duly ushered into a GP's surgery and both had our shingles jabs. The GP was very courteous towards us, took the time to ask all the relevant questions beforehand and treated my wife and myself with the utmost professionalism. Many Thanks!

Blood pressure

2 out of 5 stars

Since early February I have had to attempt to use the service at Kingston Crescent due to my previous surgery, Hanway Road closing. It is very difficult to get appointments and up to now I still haven't been able to see a Doctor. One of my problems is high blood pressure which was being monitored. My appointment last week showed my BP as still high, the healthcare assistant was very nice and spoke to the Doctor but his decision was to leave things as they are as I am awaiting a hospital appointment.......which could be as much as 24 weeks away. I asked if I should come to the surgery to have my BP checked again in a month, the Doctor said no, sadly not to me but via the very nice healthcare assistant. Sadly I feel I have had very little support from this surgery.

Thank you for your feedback. I have to respectfully disagree, we have a duty doctor available at all times for these situations. The healthcare assistant has referred to the doctor, this has meant that she has been able to relay the next steps to you, rather than asking you to call and try to gain a further appointment to discuss. This has provided you with all the information you need going forward.

Everything is ok if you have an appointment. It is hard to make an appointment to GP. I made blood test but I have no chance to ask a specialist what it means and how changes influence on my body.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes it can be difficult to gain an appointment and often although you want to be seen by a doctor, you can be appropriately seen by an alternative clinician. General Practitioners can only refer to a specialist, if a patient fits the specific criteria set by Secondary Care.

Attendance for vaccination at surgeries request

5 out of 5 stars

I arrived and keyed in in good time for the 11 o:clock appointment, at 11.15 I asked staff if I was in the correct waiting area which was confirmed, but no other info was offered. At 11.30 after another enquiry I was assured that the Doctor was aware I was waiting, at 11.50 I was called in for treatment. I am aware of the pressure that the practice is under my concern is that the lack of communication from staff re my wait, if the doctor was running late say so instead of repeating "he knows you are here".
