The Doctor was very nice and got straight on the phone to hospital and she did try for a very long time to get through to the department and I got admitted to hospital that day and was lucky I did as I had pneumonia and pleurisy. I came out last night after a week.

It has always been extremely difficult to contact the surgery by phone, during the COVID pandemic it was even worse! When anyone calls the surgery you can either receive a message stating the line is busy and then automatically cut off or put on hold for absolute ages? If you select the wrong option at the start you are abruptly told you have to call in again and go through the whole process again. Such a waste of people's time. Why can’t the surgery get more people to answer calls at busy times?
Whilst queuing at the surgery to have my covid jabs the majority of those around me were discussing how difficult it is to make an appointment to see a doctor let alone to speak or see a doctor directly to discuss medical issues. Not everyone is happy with discussing sensitive medical issues with people who are not medical, even though everyone is assured their conversations are confidential. This is simply not good enough. It is because of this issue that patients get very frustrated with GPs!
My last appointment was to have an injection. I turned up early for my appointment and the surgery was relatively empty, despite this I had to wait beyond my allotted appointment time?

Thank you for your feedback. We constantly monitor the calls coming into the Practice and ensure that we adjust our workforce in-line with the busier times. If you choose the incorrect option you will be re-directed, unless there is a clinical reason that prioritises this process. We constantly review and adjust the limited resources available to us. Please note that a quiet waiting room, does not indicate that we not working hard speaking to patients via the telephone.

For the first time in ages I was able to get a quick appointment. The phone call took a long time to get through as usual but once I'd spoken to someone I was quickly scheduled in for a face to face at Cosham staff having been redeployed to the Cosham surgery (due to short staffing elsewhere). There I saw a nurse/doctor who was extremely helpful! She was friendly and patient and put me at my ease with a sensitive problem. She listened and has prescribed me what I needed aswell as making sure there was no other underlying problem by taking and sending off a sample on that day. She also told me to get in touch if I had any other concerns. I generally find that The Portsdown Practice are unable to offer a good service as there are just too many patients with too few staff but I couldn't fault this experience. My problem is finally resolved.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry that it has taken you longer than expected to get an appointment. Sometimes it can be difficult to gain a diagnosis and often different medications need to be tried until the right one can be found.

This is the first time for a long time that I have needed to engage with my GP surgery. Fundamentally I want you to know that the process has not been easy. Whilst I was very impressed at the speed of getting the necessary medication, I have not yet actually seen or been assessed by a Dr. No one has discussed my weight, lifestyle, current issues. It has only been about getting my blood pressure down and not why it might be high. Information has been conflicting between what the Dr said about follow up blood tests and the reality. The nurse has been very reassuring and managed to negotiate changes to my medication via the on duty Dr, but no one has taken an overview of my treatment. My recent blood draw has caused a dramatic reaction to my arms, which is the only reason a Dr was called to check it at my latest nurse appt. Now I await an annual review so have no reason to see anyone else. All of this is based on my blood pressure readings only which seems odd to not have a double check in case I am not using my machine properly. I also submitted an E consult on 18th Feb, had heard nothing by 18:30 on 21st so resubmitted again, still nothing. This was to discuss a change in statins due to some side effects. I managed to get this changed at the nurses appt but disappointing not to have heard beforehand. My blood test required repeating but I was never told what for or had the results explained. The nurse told me the reading in question so I looked it up on Google.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you have not received a service to your expectations. All eConsults are responded to within 10 days, you would have received a text message to confirm this on receipt. Bruising, swelling and pain are common side effects from blood being drawn. The communication with regards to your results could have been better, we will share this experience with our team and make changes where possible.

Called about problems I had, was given a sick note and asked to come in for blood tests, made appointment for next day, arrived at surgery 5 minutes before my appointment and was seen on time, nurse was lovely when taking bloods. Got results within 2 days and prescribed folic acid. Prescription was at my allocated pharmacy when I got there.
