A good experience

Rang at 0800, was 3rd in the queue (best I have ever been), GP rang soon and after discussing my problem asked me to come to the surgery for a face-to-face. Was about 30 minutes after my appointment time that I saw the GP but this didn't bother me as I appreciate that it is very difficult to know just how long each appointment will take and I wouldn't like my consultations to be rushed. GP was very thorough and took trouble to explain the reason for my problem - even sent me a link to an explanatory document. GP sent a prescription via internet to the local pharmacy from where I collected it straight away. A good experience from all concerned.

I went in to collect my sample bottles left by the nurse. The receptionist was very helpful even though very busy and went and found what was put aside for me and the information that was attached. Very professional and very pleasent

Attempt to see a doctor

It is impossible to book an appointment, either in person or by phone. The only way of getting even a phone appointment is to call the surgery at 08:00. Despite ringing on the stroke of 08:00 I am often very low down the list and when I do get through there are no appointments. I was referred to NHS111 but after ages of going through that system I was just told to make an appointment with my doctor.
When I have eventually had a phone appointment with the doctor I found it very hard to understand what was being said and I also felt that I had not managed to get my point across. This I did not experience when I had a very rare face to face with the same doctor. On that occasion he could not have been more helpful. To get this face to face appointment I had a very unpleasant conversation with the receptionist

We are very sorry to hear of your experience, Sadly the demand for primary care services is extremely high and up and down the country the system is at breaking point. We are providing the most amount of appointments we can safely. I do hope that you can understand that the system is currently in high demand but we are trying our best for all patients at the practice.

I booked in for a blood test with no real delay and the nurse did a great job finding a vein which has been a problem in the past. Friendly people, great service!

I feel that the system does not give the doctors enough time, so they are rushed through no fault of their own and that transfers on to you and makes you feel that you should not be there or ask about results, what they mean, so you can understand your health rather than being a passive recipient of medication.

Very helpful receptionists, never rude (like other surgeries I have encountered). Doctor was very thorough and lovely, really put me at ease. Had to have chest X-ray, ECG and bloods. ECG was done at the surgery a couple of days later, excellent. If I had to make a negative comment it would only be that I couldn’t get a blood test appointment until 4 Aug, that said I understand how busy you all are.

The blood taking was very quick and conducted with professionalism, however, trying to book an appointment after was not at all good.
I was advised to call at 8am in the morning, to then possibly, maybe get a phone call later in the day from a Doctor. This is unacceptable for me, as I am working and need to be able to book an appointment at a specific time and day. Preferably not in 3 weeks time either.
