Adult ear drum infection

Originally was asked to phone after 10am for appts. When I did I was told there were no appts, she could make one for next week or go to the chemist, they may be able to give me something. Went to the chemist in Hythe, but he couldn’t understand why I’d been told to go to a chemist as they can only deal with children for ears not adults. He kindly looked in my ears telling me what I already believed, that I had an infected ear drum and needed antibiotics. He couldn’t prescribe them so I’d have to go back to my GP. Drove straight to my GP surgery and explained, they still didn’t have any appts I’d need to call at 8am. Then she suggested I could call 111 and explain my situation to them and they may be able to prescribe the antibiotics for me. I go back to the car park and sit in my car and call 111 to be told they cannot issue prescriptions but she could book a phonecall from my surgery doctor to call me from 2pm. I accepted that and went home to wait for the call. Around 4.20 I still am in agony and not heard from the surgery so I called them back voicing my concerns that this has taken me all day to try and sort out and I still haven’t had the GP call and it’s getting close to chemists closing. This member of staff was in fact the first helpful one as she told me I am still showing due a phonecall but as my usual chemist will close soon she changed it to go to the 7pm closing chemist in new Romney just for this prescription. Eventually around 5 the GP calls and originally asks if I can get there quick for him to see me. I live in St Mary’s Bay and there are roadworks in between us so no I wouldn’t be able to get there. Eventually he did decide it best to sort the prescription out for me but if it didn’t clear up I was to make an appointment to see him. I eventually picked up the tablets at 6pm. I believe this was not handled very professionally at all. Staff at the surgery reception need to be made aware that chemists can only deal with ear problems for children and they cannot write prescriptions, also they need to be aware that 111 are also unable to do this. I spent a whole day either on the phone making numerous phonecalls or driving about Kent doing what was asked of me by the surgery staff for me to almost have to beg for the antibiotics even after a pharmacist which the surgery had told me to see told me I had an infected ear drum. If the surgery is not going to take the word of a chemist and prescribe the antibiotics without question then what is the point of sending patients to see them. I know they did in the end but it really should never have taken a whole day for me to finally be dealt with. Not a very professional experience for me at all and because of this I was left in a lot of pain longer than necessary too

Phone appt with Dr. Re chest infection

I would like to have seen the Dr as my chest felt crackley but I was put onto anti biotics which I was happy about. The prescription went straight to the chemist and I was able to pick it up quickly. I started on the medication asap and now feel things are improving. The call back telephone call was quick and efficient and very helpfull. Overall satisfied with the service.

To be able to increase demand at the practice, not all consultations require a face to face appointment. This will be determined by the clinician that you speak with and then if they feel they need to examine you they will of course arrange the face to face appointment with you. This has also been explained by our patient participation group in the parish newsletters previously.

Conversation with Doctor

I had a telephone consultation today to review my blood results. What a joy to speak to Dr Wyatt Muscat. I could understand her, she was pleasant, relaxed and didn't appear pressured to end the conversation as soon as possible. She explained in detail and answered all my questions. For the first time I felt someone cared about my condition and was willing to do all she could to help me feel better.
Well done Doctor and thanks. Hope you will be with the practice for some time to come

I found it difficult to understand everything the doctor said, so I did ask her to repeat it often. She did not appear to be annoyed. This was good. She explained carefully her concerns and agreed with me about my approach.
I was listened to.
My big concern was that, as this was by telephone, I did not have my blood pressure taken. However it was recorded as O E blood pressure, and then the reading, and also a body mass index reading.
The doctor has no idea what my blood pressure is now, or my weight and therefore BMI.
Is this standard practice to quote a reading literally years ago from a record as a current reading and ditto my BMI.
Thus seems very misleading and inaccurate.
I'm sure anyone looking at my most recent review will think that is my BMI and current BP.
This is just one of the problems of a telephone and not in person appointment.
