Didn't expect the speedy service I received!
I knew I needed antibiotics as suffered with similar problems since childhood. Phoned on the 'dot' of 08:00 and as usual, but always the same message, lines are busy etc, when I did finally get into a queue I asked for a Telcon with Doctor. Was called back within 30 minutes and had an appointment that morning and got the meds I needed. Previous experiences have not always gone as well.

Emergency Monday Appointment
I called up to see a doctor 5 days after going to the walk in centre at St Marys. At St Marys I was told I had pharangytis and didn't need antibiotics, but after 5 days it was very apparent that I did need them. I went in to see the nurse practitioner. She was very helpful and understanding and took time to listen to me. She gave me the antibiotics and signed me off for the rest of the week.

Apart from the telephone booking system, which is terrible, 23rd in the queue and 30 minutes later 11th. The figures used are averages and they should be assessed in real time! Getting through to Crookhorn reception is just as bad as waiting in the queue for an appointment, please return so our calls can be directed by pressing ‘2’. Having said that, you cannot fault the Reception staff, nurses and Doctors they are first class. Special mention of my Diabetes Nurse Nikki Woolhead, for her knowledge, positivity and care.

Non urgent appointment
The gp and service once I managed to get an appointment was very good. However, the telephone system is terrible. It took me 3 phone calls over 2 days to get absolutely no where after patiently waiting from 16th in the queue at one point.!!!! I was eventually advised to go on line at 7pm as a few routine appointments would be released. I set my alarm for 6.55pm and managed to get an appointment.

Kind and friendly nursing staff
I came in to surgery for a blood pressure check and routine blood test. Louise and her colleague (who was retiring that day) were professional and put my mind at rest when my blood pressure reading was normal, after using the Pod which produced a very high, inaccurate reading which caused me concern. They stressed that they often had to carry out repeat BP checks following use of the Pod. In my opinion this should be removed as it causes undue concern to patients. I check my BP at home about once a month so knew the Pod result was way too high.

Mainly positive feedback.
When you can get through the service is excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful and GPs are good. Online referring is excellent and a GP or nurse gets back within 24 hours. Saves a trip to the surgery. Triage also good.
Only criticism is being able to get through as phone lines always busy and can’t wait when I am 15 in the queue as working.

I have been a patient of the Portsdown group of surgeries for many years, I have never had any complaints regarding their professionalism, code of conduct or their discretion.
My current main surgery is the Crookhorn practice and I could not rate them high enough, they are 100% efficient in what they do, whether it be booking an appointment, arranging a repeat prescription or just giving general advice. they are great at what they do, please never change.
