Supportive and clear

This was a telephone consultation and we covered a lot of ground regarding my treatment plan in several areas. The doctor was supportive and clear about the way forward and followed up with a text confirmation about one area that had needed clarification which was very helpful.

Felt like I would have been fobbed off if I hadn’t questioned the diagnosis, the fact that the doctor started to google what she thought I had didn’t give me confidence, it was only when I pushed I was offered a second opinion with a referral.

Please be advised that Google is an acceptable tool for professionals to use, especially for checking NICE Guidance or BNF (British National Formulary) for reference on medications. It is not possible to expect clinicians to have all of the required knowledge and not have the relevant reference points to refer to.

Blood pressure

Went to Crookhorn Lane Surgery for a check of my blood pressure which had spiked about the limit I had been told about previously. Seen on time by Health Support Worker, blood pressure was checked and found to be normal. I received advice on how to do future home test readings. Left feeling relieved and happy with the care and helpful advice given.

It would appear to me and other patients that the reception’s main purpose is to maintain a fortress to defend the practice from the public. The very people who fund their remuneration.
Trying to get an appointment is like drawing teeth . . . from an angry tiger!
Apart from routine vaccinations and blood tests it’s almost impossible to see a doctor in anything like a reasonable time scale. This is causing many people to use the A & E department for minor problems.
I’m not sure that there are any qualified doctors at the practice currently.
Also why am I being sent off to distant practices when I can see my registered surgery from my bedroom window. It’s not because the surgery is over-burdened because when we have requested a change of venue it’s immediately complied with.
We are both in our eighties and find travelling into crowded city areas rather stressful.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that your perception is that our reception is a "fortress to defend". Access is an issue in general across all of primary as demand outweighs what is available, however, we always offer the maximum access utilising the the limited resources available. We offer the earliest available appointments to patients, you can of course choose to ask for a preferred location and if this is available this will be arranged for you. I can confirm that we have currently 31 GPs in attendance across our sites.
