St James' Surgery

I was seen on time and nurse was very friendly and put me at ease. She was very thorough, height, weight, blood pressure and blood test. Explained everything fully. Also reviewed my medication. A very positive experience.

Attended with my autistic son. Dr Hill was brilliant with him. Made my son feel very relaxed and helped to put a plan to resolve the issues. Such a lovely, caring man.

My appointment was on time. The nurse carrying out the checks was very good.

I saw Advanced Nurse Practitioner Dan Partridge on Friday, 11/07/2025. He was thorough in his assessment of the symptoms I presented. When he did his examination, he had a very respectful manner and made me feel at ease. He demonstrated great skill when he had to draw blood - I hardly felt it. He gave thorough advice and followed through on what he agreed to during the consultation.

I recently moved to St. James GP from another surgery in town, and the overall experience has been a big improvement. The staff and receptionists are always pleasant and helpful, making it a much more welcoming environment. While some services are still time-restricted (which is a national issue), the care and professionalism here have been noticeably better than my previous GP. Very happy so far!

The doctors and nurse practitioners were fantastic- helpfulness itself. Unfortunately, the receptionist was unpleasant and confrontational. I think I muddled an appointment time and was already stressed getting my mum with dementia there at all. When she kept saying "I don't know if anyone will see you and you're late for your 10:50 appointment", which incidentally I was on time for, but the auto check-in was out of order and she was dealing with others, so she didn't get to me for 5 mins. I was frustrated feeling guilty for missing the doctors appointment and couldn't get past the "I don't know whether.....ad infinitum" I walked away before I told her to do something very rude and said, I admit quite loudly "whatever", upon which she shouted from behind the desk "theres no need for that attitude in front of everyone", thereby drawing everyone's attention herself anyway. I get that she was overwhelmed by having to deal with patients on her own, but I then had a meltdown in the doctor's surgery. I was very grateful to Dr. Duncan and Mrs. Kempestuan as they got my mum seen to. As I left, I said sorry to the receptionist even though I felt she had escalated the situation. She, quite ungraciously and in a tone which indicated she felt absolutely no responsibility for growing the whole incident out of proportion, said tersely, "Apology accepted ". Perhaps further training in customer service and anger management may help to prevent this from happening to someone else.

Doctors at this surgery do not have a clue what they are doing!!!

The appointment was on time, which is always very good. The person who did my review was very clear with the information they gave me. The person was very polite and answered any questions I had. The answers were clear and understandable.

I have had a visit with Dr Vimbai Duncan, she is a very good specialist and helpful in my illness, gave me some directions and advanced.

Receptionists are helpful and polite. The doctor on my last visit was excellent. As are the nurses.
