Seen quickly

Appointment

When I went for my review, the nurse told me that I was overweight so I then asked about the new injection. She didn’t know how I could speak to somebody about it. when I did eventually speak to somebody they said a doctor review my case the doctor then replied saying I wasn’t eligible for the new weight loss jab as it is not being issued on NHS in Hampshire and Isle of Wight which I know is not true because somebody I’ve just spoke to just received the weight loss jab and they are only two stone overweight. When I looked on the government website it says that you meet the criteria you need to have certain things which is diabetes, overweight, heart problems or lack of sleep which I have all of these. So yes, I think the service is very poor.

From 23 June 2025, NHS England has said that a patient who meets the NHS priority cohort qualifying criteria (a BMI of at least 40 and four or more of the weight related comorbidities) should be able to access medication in a primary care setting, if both patient and clinician agree it is the most appropriate treatment option. However, this does not mean that this service is available yet. It will take time for it to be designed and put into place safely. We have been informed that in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, we will not be in a position to provide this service on prescription until later this year (autumn). Additional pathways for patients with lower BMIs are also being developed.

As my appointment was a sensitive one I was made to feel really relaxed and at ease. The nurse was very helpful and very confident in what she was doing which made me feel even more relaxed.

A good experience

Called not long after my given appointment. Nurse was very cheerful and friendly. Did an excellent job of taking my bloods as she found a vein straight away and I didn’t feel the needle go in. I also asked if she would take my blood pressure and she did . All round a good experience.

Getting an appointment is a complete lottery. People have told me they have to lie and make out there is a bigger problem, just to they can get seen. Calling at precisely 8am to end up 60th in the queue is just crazy, there clearly are not enough people manning the phone.
