Once I had actually been given an appointment on Wednesday (tried since 8am Monday) for a painful swollen calf the practitioner that I saw was very lovely, professional and reassuring, listening to my concerns and making a treatment plan.

Severe abdominal pain

This is a review for Cosham Park House Surgery

I've recently had bowel resection to remove stage 3 cancer. This was followed by sepsis, an AKI and severe dehydration. This left a hole in the colon at the join site. I now have a collection in the left pelvic area causing infection in the lower abdomen. For months now, I have experienced severe pain on and off. In the last month it has escalated causing me to seek medical help. My own GP never seem to have any appointments (told by receptionist they have filled their quota for the day and ring back tomorrow or ring 111 !) 111 were very understanding and helpful. The call handlers were kind and supportive, understanding of my needs. They put me onto a GP who was also very helpful. I ended up going to hospital where I was treated with co-amoxiclav for a UTI. In now going for further investigation with my colorectal team. Thankyou so much for your help and support.

Mum is now in hospital; it's been found she had a massive uti, kidney issues, arrhythmia, low blood pressure. The paramedic was outraged that the doctor hadn't done a urine test on the day ( I ... her daughter, was sent home to do the tests) but as mum wasn't eating or drinking hard to do . I know mum pr esented as very confused but I believe it's very common knowledge that UTI's can present as this too or exacerbate the situation. I would however like to thank reception and Dr. Kyd for being very responsive in getting us a same day appointment.

Essentially, my concerns are over the time and hassle it takes to secure an appointment. I know the pressures/demands GP practices are under, but there needs to be more investment and resources. The actual treatment aspect was fine, but getting that far was a bit of a challenge especially if you are working during the day and don't have 30 minutes etc to wait on the phone.
